Landscape in wc pencil - Villa Tasca

The assignment this week in Kate's Watercolor Pencil class (http://cathyjohnson.info/) was to sketch a landscape in watercolor pencil. I found a photo from our trip to Sicily and decided to give that a try. This is a scene of Villa Tasca in Sicily with a bit of modification to the house --- but the fields of yellow wildflowers, the rock and trees and mountains behind the villa are all from that fabulous trip two years ago. In the real, the mountain in a bit more pink and far more faded -- but I couldn't adjust the scan to give the proper amount of color to the field if I lightened the hill sufficiently.

We're having a bit of wintry weather today -- icy rain ... but as treacherous as it is to travel, it's RAIN in the lakes! YEAH! Stay warm!

Oh this is just so beautiful. I thought for sure it was done with regular water colors. You have done an amazing job with the pencils! It's a scene you just want to walk into and stay!
Hugs,
Lorraine

WOW!!! This is luscious! Glad you are finally getting some rain! Drive very carefully, "icy rain" sounds pretty slick.

What a beautiful landscape. I can hardly believe it is WC pencil! You are a fast learner.

Yay for rain -- and MORE rain! This is really a lovely piece. I couldn't tell that it was done in WC pencil, either. You have such a nice smooth technique!

And what a nice library of meaningful reference photos you have, too. Italy looks like such a beautiful place. To have you OWN photos makes the paintings YOUR OWN, too. Does that make sense? :-D
