Dinner at the American Tobacco Center

las chicas

Our local NPR radio station hosted a free concert last night, "Las Chicas" at the newly renovated American Tobacco Center (about 30 minutes from our home). These former tobacco warehouses were turned into the most gorgeous water and shop complex! C and I ate dinner outdoors at the restaurants "Symposium." Since it was still so very hot, we were fortunate to find a shady corner with a bit of a breeze and alongside the concert stage! Patio dining at its finest -- music, a cooling evening, good food (Greek salads, fantastic crab cakes and ice cream parfaits! The music, from WUNC's 'Back Porch Music' was a luscious blend of country, gospel and bluegrass lilted by vocal harmonies that made you sigh. The concert gathered quite a crowd of families, and we enjoyed watching the children play around the many fountains and small waterfalls and grass areas. A delicious, restive, peaceful night!

We left after walking around the complex and taking photo references for the 'water' theme I'm working with this month. We also met the general manager of WUNC-Radio. They will hold another concert next month, and we've already marked the calendar to attend. We had such a delightful time, that I've vowed to increase my pledge to this radio station. What a gift both the complex and the music is to the community!
